That’s a wrap

Image
Hey everyone! Welcome back to the blog! It’s hard to believe, but after all the planning, filming, editing, and late-night problem-solving, our film is finally complete. It has been such an incredible journey, and I couldn’t be prouder of everything our team has accomplished. Looking back, this project has been one of the most challenging but rewarding experiences I’ve ever been a part of. From the first day of filming to the final hours of editing, we poured so much effort into every detail. There were definitely moments of stress. Whether it was struggling to fit filming into our busy schedules, battling unpredictable weather, or having to go back for extra shots, but all of those challenges only made the final product even more meaningful. Seeing everything come together in the editing room was great. All of the carefully planned shots, the late-night discussions about directing and music, and the behind-the-scenes work with social media and promotion. It all built up to this moment...

Final touches

Hey everyone! Welcome back to the blog! We’re officially in the final stretch of production, and I couldn’t be more excited! After spending time editing with Conner and reviewing everything with the team, we realized that there were still a few small pieces missing so we planned some extra filming to make sure the film is as strong as possible. Editing has been such a rewarding process, but it also makes you hyper-aware of what’s working and what still needs a little fixing. As Conner and I went through the footage, we noticed a few shots that could use better transitions or extra coverage to make certain scenes feel smoother. Sometimes, things that seem perfect during filming don’t quite translate the same way once you start piecing it all together. That’s why reshoots and pick-up shots are so important! After reviewing everything as a group, we made a list of what still needed to be filmed. Small details like reaction shots, extra cutaways, and a couple of filler scenes to make ...

Bringing it all together

Image
Hey everyone! Welcome back to the blog! After all the hard work we’ve put into filming, we’ve finally reached one of the most exciting (and sometimes stressful) parts of the process. Editing! Today, Conner and I sat down to start piecing everything together, and later, we went over our progress with the rest of the team. Editing is where the film truly starts to come to life. Conner and I spent hours going through all the footage, selecting the best takes, and making sure everything flowed smoothly. It’s crazy to see how different shots we worked so hard to capture actually fit together. It makes all the challenges we faced during filming completely worth it. One of the biggest things we focused on was pacing. We want the film to have an emotional impact, so timing is everything. We experimented with different cuts, transitions, and ways to enhance the mood. Seeing the shots we planned so carefully finally coming together was so satisfying. After making some solid progress, we got toge...

Balancing it all

Image
Hey everyone! Welcome back to the blog! Today, I wanted to take a moment to talk about something that’s been a real challenge for me throughout this process. Balancing school, helping others with their films, and making it to our own filming days. As much as I love being part of this project, it’s definitely been tough to be there for every single shoot. Between my own schoolwork and commitments, plus helping out with a few other student films, my schedule has been completely packed. Some days, I’ve had to miss filming sessions because of deadlines or because I was needed on another set. It’s been frustrating at times because I genuinely want to be there for every part of our film, but there are only so many hours in a day. Even when I can’t physically be at every shoot, I’ve been doing my best to contribute in other ways helping with promotional materials, brainstorming ideas, and staying involved in planning. It’s not always easy to feel like I’m juggling everything, but I remind mys...

Preparing for the final shoot

Image
Hey everyone! Welcome back to the blog! We have some updates for you today. Today was a bit of a slower day, which gave us a much-needed breather between our more intense filming sessions. Even though we weren’t on set, there was still plenty to do behind the scenes to keep our project moving forward! Finn and Conner focused on boosting our Instagram and TikTok pages, promoting behind-the-scenes clips and spreading the word around school. It was nice to take a step back from filming and focus on social media strategy for a bit. I helped brainstorm and draft some of our posts, making sure they captured the energy of our project while keeping our audience engaged. It was so exciting to see more people interacting with our content, asking questions, and showing interest in the film! Seeing that kind of response makes all the effort feel even more worthwhile. I also spent a big part of the day finalizing the design of our promotional postcards. Conner and I went through every detail, ...

Designing our film postcards

Image
Hey everyone! Welcome back to the blog! I’m so excited to share today’s update because it’s all about one of my favorite parts of the promotional process, designing the postcards for our film! If you’ve been following along, you know that my team and I are working hard to get the word out about our project. While social media is a great tool, we wanted something physical that people could actually hold onto something that stands out. That’s where the idea of postcards came in! They’re like business cards but way cooler because they capture the essence of our film in a single, eye-catching design. I took the lead on designing them, and honestly, it was such a fun challenge. I wanted to make sure they looked cinematic, intriguing, and professional all at once. After playing around with different layouts and images, we settled on a striking still from one of our scenes that really captures the mood of our story. The title of the film is front and center, and we also included key details l...

Building the buzz

Image
Hey everyone! Welcome back to the blog! While we continue filming and editing, we’ve also started focusing on promoting our project to make sure it reaches as many people as possible. That means setting up social media accounts, building a website, and even designing printed postcards to spread the word! Finn and Conner took the lead on setting up our social media pages, creating accounts on Instagram and TikTok. Instagram will be for high-quality stills, behind-the-scenes clips, and story updates, while TikTok will focus more on fun, short-form content, quick clips of filming, behind-the-scenes moments, and teasers. The goal is to build anticipation for the film while also giving people a look into the filmmaking process. Meanwhile, Valentina has been hard at work designing our website. It’ll serve as the main hub for everything related to the film, including information about the story, cast and crew, and eventually, our official trailer. She’s been working on making it visually cine...

Bringing the story to life

Image
Hey everyone! Welcome back to the blog! After these scheduling delays and planning, we finally started filming with our female lead, Olivia. It felt amazing to see everything come together after so much preparation! We started with the car ride sequences since we had already filmed some of the background shots. Now, it was all about seamlessly integrating Olivia’s performance into them. This scene is crucial because it sets the tone for the film, so we had to be intentional with every shot. Olivia completely nailed it. She brought this quiet, emotional tension that fit the moment perfectly. Filming in a moving car is always tricky, but we made it work. We focused on close-ups of Olivia staring out the window, letting her expressions tell the story without any dialogue. Valentina and I shot over-the-shoulder angles from the backseat to capture her perspective as she drove through the city, giving a sense of isolation and reflection. Conner filmed profile shots from the passenger side, u...

Overcoming setbacks

Image
Hey everyone! Welcome back to the blog! As much as we’d love for everything to go smoothly, filmmaking is never that simple. Today, I want to talk about something every filmmaker faces at some point—scheduling issues. While we’ve made great progress on our opening scene, we’ve hit a few roadblocks that have slowed us down. The biggest issue right now is finding our female lead. We originally planned to film with an actress, but since we couldn’t lock down anyone due to availability, we decided to shoot the background and transition shots first. However, not having our lead has put certain scenes on hold, which has made it harder to keep our filming momentum going. Another big challenge has been coordinating everyone's schedules. With all of us juggling different commitments—jobs, classes, and sports—finding days when we’re all free has been tough. We’ve had to reschedule multiple times, and even when we do manage to meet up, unexpected conflicts sometimes get in the way. On top of ...

Capturing the first shots

Image
Hey everyone! Welcome back to the blog! If you've been keeping up with us, you know that my group and I are putting together and working on a short film about the loss of someone important and the tragedy that follows. Today, we took the first big step toward completing that film! Our opening scene to our "short movie" starts with drone shots and pan shots of the boat parade before transitioning into a car ride with the female lead who we haven't necessarily figured out which girl will play the part. Since we’re still figuring out casting due to scheduling conflicts, we decided to film these scenes without any of our actors for now. Honestly, the drone shots were pretty easy to capture. I'd say the hardest part was waiting for the boats to pass by at the perfect moment. On the other hand, the car ride scene was a much bigger challenge for us. Conner, Valentina, Finn, and I met up to decide on the best filming location and we ended up choosing Lighthouse Point whi...

Title Design

Image
Hello everybody! Welcome back to the blog, here are our current plans for the title design. Keep in mind these are not final and can change at any moment! Working title: Silent Echoes     •    The opening credits will appear in traditional overlays throughout the film.     •    The film title will fade in over the boat parade scene, reflecting on the water.     •    Crew and cast names will appear in subtle corner overlays during key moments.     •    The text will be minimal and unobtrusive, blending seamlessly with the visuals.     •    The rooftop scene will feature a soft fade-in of credits as the protagonist and female lead talk.     •    The final credit will appear as as a black screen once the Female Lead disappears.     •    Font size and placement will change to fit the tone and framing of each shot.     •    The last s...

Location, Participants, Health, Schedule

Hello! Welcome back! Today, I'll be going over the information for our final task. Location Our group will be recording at the beach, an apartment building, Las Olas, coffee shops, and more areas alike if needed. These places such as the beach will all be used for date scenes and flashbacks, while places like Bayview Park, and the gym will be used for scenes on "working out". The Apartment rooftop will be used for the scene of the female leads' disappearance. We might use a few other places to film "hangouts with friends". Participants as of right now: Actors: Finn O'Brien  Alyssa Jaidane Ella Agnese Roles & Positions: Director:  Conner Cleary Co-Director/s:  Ella Agnese, Alyssa Jaidane, Finn O'Brien Producer:  Unknown Filming & Editing:  Conner Cleary, Alyssa Jaidane We'll all be taking turns in the filming process and sharing ideas when we start editing the movie.
