Capturing the first shots
Hey everyone! Welcome back to the blog! If you've been keeping up with us, you know that my group and I are putting together and working on a short film about the loss of someone important and the tragedy that follows. Today, we took the first big step toward completing that film! Our opening scene to our "short movie" starts with drone shots and pan shots of the boat parade before transitioning into a car ride with the female lead who we haven't necessarily figured out which girl will play the part. Since we’re still figuring out casting due to scheduling conflicts, we decided to film these scenes without any of our actors for now. Honestly, the drone shots were pretty easy to capture. I'd say the hardest part was waiting for the boats to pass by at the perfect moment. On the other hand, the car ride scene was a much bigger challenge for us. Conner, Valentina, Finn, and I met up to decide on the best filming location and we ended up choosing Lighthouse Point which is closer to Conner, Finn, and I. We took Conner’s car, and once we got there, Finn took over the driving so we could focus on filming. Valentina and I were in charge of getting "over the shoulder" shots of Finn while making sure the road and city lights in the background still looked good or more appealing in a way. Meanwhile, Conner was in the passenger seat filming side shots of Finn to emphasize his emotions. He also handled the camera to get rolling shots of the car, which turned out to be a lot more difficult than we thought because of the wind. Since we were driving around 40 miles per hour, the wind resistance made stabilizing the camera nearly impossible. In the end, we decided to work with smaller clips that we’ll edit together later when it comes to that time. Once we choose a song for the opening scene, we’ll come back to it and do what we think is best for the shots. That’s all for today’s blog! Tomorrow, I’ll be updating you all on the editing process for these shots. Hope you have a great day. Thank you and make sure to come back and check in!
