Assembling our story

Hey everyone! Welcome back to the blog! We got some updates. Now that filming is officially wrapped, we’ve fully transitioned into post-production, and let me tell you, this is where everything starts to feel real. Editing is where all our hard work comes together, where individual shots and scenes blend into a full, cohesive story. While we still have a long way to go, we’ve already made great progress in assembling the film’s structure. The first big step was organizing all of our footage. Since we filmed out of order, we had to carefully sort through every clip, label them correctly, and select the best takes based on performance, lighting, and composition. This process took longer than expected, but having everything properly arranged makes the actual editing much smoother. One of the biggest challenges we’ve faced so far is making sure the flashback scenes flow seamlessly into the present-day moments. These transitions need to feel natural, almost like Finn’s character is slipping in and out of memories, without the audience feeling a jarring cut. To achieve this, we’ve been experimenting with soft fades, match cuts, and sound bridges to blur the lines between past and present. It’s been tricky to get just right, but it’s such an important part of the film’s emotional impact. Since editing is such a collaborative process, I reached out to Conner, Valentina, and Finn for their input. Conner has been leading a lot of the technical side of editing, but we all worked together to refine the pacing and visual flow. I suggested holding certain flashback moments a little longer so the emotions could fully sink in before cutting back to the present. Valentina had some great ideas for visual transitions, like using subtle fades and color grading to differentiate the time periods while keeping everything cohesive. Finn gave insight into his own performance, helping us pick the takes that best captured his character’s emotional depth. It was really cool to see how everyone’s input made a difference. The edits started feeling much more polished after these changes. Speaking of color grading, that’s another major focus right now. The flashbacks have a warmer, golden tone to make them feel nostalgic and full of life, while the present-day scenes have a cooler, muted palette to reflect Finn’s emotional state. Finding the right balance has been challenging, but after testing a few different looks, we’re getting closer to the final vision. In the next few days, we’ll be fine-tuning the pacing, adding any necessary effects, and making sure every scene flows naturally into the next. It’s crazy to think that we’re this close to finishing! That’s it for today’s update. Next time, I’ll share more about our promotional efforts and some unexpected challenges we’ve run into along the way. Thanks for following along, and see you in the next blog!
